I read somewhere that artists are like whales swimming with their mouths open, absorbing everything, until she or he has what is really needed.  Everyone in one way or another is sensitive to his or her surroundings, but as artists we feel the need to express those feelings. That is the tricky part.  Artists in a way are like  philosophers and can be inspired by happiness, by profound sadness or simply by individual interests.
